Lady Gaga Tops DoSomething.org’s ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ List

DoSomething.org, one of the largest U.S. organizations that helps teens take action on causes they care about, released today its fourth annual ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ list.
Lady Gaga continues her reign as the star who uses her celebrity to do the most good. Known for her support of gay rights, AIDS, and poverty, she focused primarily this year on bullying, even taking her thoughts to the White House in December. She also announced the creation of her own charity, the Born this Way Foundation, which aims to empower youth and lead them to a brave new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.
Making a meteoric rise to number two this year is Justin Bieber, up from number 10 last year. His fast rise is due to his prolific work with Pencils of Promise, an organization that builds schools in Laos and Guatemala. Justin is also a consistent supporter of Make-A-Wish, raised funds for charity with his fragrance and holiday album, and recently distributed $100,000 to Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas.
“There are some interesting trends from this year’s list,” says Aria Finger, COO of DoSomething.org. “It’s dominated by young celebrities and we also see so many couples. Last year the list had its first power couple, Ashton and Demi, and this year there are a total of four couples. Doing good is definitely fun in groups.”
For the first time ever, DoSomething.org’s panel of social media and mobile experts incorporated Facebook voting to help them determine the impact of celebrities reaching an audience with their cause. The criteria stipulated giving money wasn’t enough to count as creating impact; instead, a celebrity needed to take an action others could emulate, like writing articles, building houses, or founding an organization. Facebook fans voted Sophia Bush as the first ‘Fan Favorite.’

- How will Zoey Dechanel use her new star power for good?
- We suspect Bieber’s good heart will rub-off on Selena Gomez and catapult her to the list next year.
- With Tim Tebow being the most talked about athlete of 2011, we’re excited to see how he uses his celebrity for good in the coming year.
To determine the rankings, DoSomething.org used its research team and an expert panel, who focused on three elements: popularity, influence, and impact. The first two were calculated using each celebrity’s number of Twitter followers and Facebook likes, as well as their IMDB Pro Scores, Billboard Social 50 ranking, and number of ChaCha inquiries.

Lady Gaga to Release Blu-Ray/DVD From The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden

Multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning artist Lady Gaga will release a Blu-Ray & DVD copy of the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award winning HBO special Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden that includes exclusive, never before seen footage. Also being released is the album Born This Way The Remix – a 14 track collection of remixes by some of today’s most prominent artists, DJs and producers, including Foster the People, Michael Woods and The Weekend. The new products are also available in a special package called Born This Way, The Collection, that will include the multi-platinum 17-track record Born This Way, the brand new Born This Way The Remix album and the Monster Ball Tour DVD.

Lady Gaga attended Britney Spears‘ “Femme Fatale” tour concert at the Boardwalk Hall Arena in Atlantic City over the weekend – The ‘Judas’ singer was said to have enjoyed Britney’s show, and reportedly was even seen fist-pumping during the ‘I Wanna Go’ performance.

Tony Bennett Celebrates His 85th Birthday on August 3rd

Legendary performer Tony Bennett celebrates a milestone birthday on August 3rd when he turns 85. But “the best is yet to come” with news that the singer has just completed recording with Lady Gaga and Aretha Franklin for his highly anticipated DUETS II CD adding to a celebrated list of artists previously announced including Michael Buble, Norah Jones, John Mayer, Queen Latifah, Carrie Underwood, Amy Winehouse and many others.
Lady Gaga joined Tony for a rendition of the Rogers and Hart song, “The Lady Is A Tramp” and Bennett and Franklin collaborated on the Alan and Marilyn Bergman classic, “How Do You Keep The Music Playing.” Both tracks were recorded live in the studio in New York City at the end of last month. A full listing of the artist and song roster follows this release.

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way has become the fastest-selling album of the year around the world. With 288,000 copies sold its first day (May 23) and 1,108,000 its first week in the U.S., Born This Way (Streamline/Interscope/KonLive) has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart, the first Lady Gaga album to debut at the top spot. Born This Way has also sold more than 1,000,000 copies outside the U.S. The album debuted #1 in the U.K., where first-week sales were greater than the rest of the Top 10 combined and the best debut week by a solo American female artist since 2005. Country Road Version of Lady Gaga Hit “Born This Way” Released to Benefit Charity

The country version of Lady Gaga‘s smash hit “Born This Way” has become such a viral sensation since being released through her Twitter page that she has decided to officially issue the track for sale on April 5th with a portion of the proceeds to benefit charity. The “Born This Way – Country Road Version“, produced by Lady Gaga and Fernando Garibay, was recently recorded while on tour and features new Lady Gaga vocals and added guitar and harmonica. First released March 24th as a gift to her fans (she has become the first person on Twitter with 9,000,000 followers), overwhelming praise for the recording–marked by over 1,000,000 YouTube views in it’s first few days of release–has prompted Lady Gaga to release the track officially, with Lady Gaga, her record label, and her publisher donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of the track to benefit the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Biography: Lady Gaga
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), who performs under the stage name Lady Gaga, is a singer, songwriter and musician from New York City, New York, United States.
Before Gaga adopted her stage name she was in a band called Stefani Germanotta Band. She released her first EP, “Red and Blue”, in early 2006. The following year, music producer Rob Fusari dubbed her Lady Gaga, inspired by the Queen song “Radio Gaga”. After this she recorded her first two songs as Lady Gaga (Fever and Wonderful) on Def Jam records, but was later let go.
She began her career as a songwriter for some of pop music’s biggest stars, including Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears and New Kids on the Block, as well as American singer and producer Akon. After Akon recognized that Gaga also had vocal talent, he signed her to a joint deal with his own label, Kon Live Distribution, and then she started to work on her own new material for her debut album.
Gaga released “The Fame” in 2008, which she explained was “about how anyone can feel famous.” To date, the album has spawned the international number one hit singles “Just Dance” (nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards) and “Poker Face.” The Fame then went Diamond in February 2010, Selling over 12 million copies worldwide.
She then continued to release a new album 1 year later, “The Fame Monster”, which she wasn’t intending to make at first. She released “Bad Romance” as the first single, and has been nominated for dozens of awards all over the world. After The Fame Monster was released she released two more singles “Telephone (feat. Beyonce)” and “Alejandro”. She released “Dance in the Dark” as a promotional single, but only released it in Australia, New Zealand and France. She has been touring almost constantly since “The Fame Monster” was released, referring to her shows as The Monster Ball.
Lady Gaga announced her new album name, “Born This Way” at the 2010 MTV VMAs. It is set to be released in 2011, an official date has not been set yet.
